Big names like big ideas. But does the system for taxing MNC profits really need the 'rip it up & start again ' approach that Joe Stiglitz is gung ho for ?

You would go a long way to solve climate change with a broadly consistent multilateral carbon tax. It’s a shame there isn’t more focus on it.

And such a tax has the merits of being directly linked to established causes of climate change, could link activities to taxes on a geographic basis, and apply to some of the big sources that fall outside MNCs - especially China and India.

Some old memes- $500bn not the figure Zucman uses but Z is fine for profit shifting? (And the 40% does not reflect any CFC style tax.) CT is important. But per OECD overall avg revenues have gone up from 2.7% of GDP in 2000 to 3.0% in 2016. How much does climate change need?pic.twitter.com/J1vIFkGmPj
