If the @ONS @Census2021 & Scottish census is going to direct some people to answer the question as if it was a different question then they need to provide guidance on the criteria for who the people are who should answer the question differently.

Is this the definition of trans that the @ONS @SP_European @Census2021 are going to use? Or will they use the protected characteristic of "gender reassignment" from the Equality Act which is less expansive than Stonewall's definition?

We need both items @Stonewalluk, because delivery of services will need to be provided on a basis of sex and of gender. Trans lives may depend on it, as drugs work differently in males and females, symptoms of disease differ, treatments have different effects.
That should satisfy both the need for accurate statistics based on biological sex, and just as important, take account of the needs of the trans community. It might be an idea to expand the gender question to include lived as, GRC, identifies as, etc.
