It is the clash between kindness & fairness, people not coping with the cognitive dissonance that being kind to one disadvantaged group may involve being unfair to another, & virtue signal. It is *boggling* to see it. Jonathan Haidt is fascinating on social& political emotions.

I recently had someone explain to me that they had done their thesis on how it was impossible for the human rights of two groups of people to clash. Facepalm.

Sadly, most people are sheep. Separating from the bigger group feels risky. They prefer muting themselves over potentially being ostracized. I think most people think the matter will go away, resolve itself or won’t impact them & their loved ones. It’s quite bizarre.
