Our brains throw up smoke to give us some reason to avoid dealing with cognitive dissonance. Even when its when it's obvious they are bad reasons, we go along with them because the alternative of disagreeing with our tribe of 'good people' is too painful

Here is a handhold out of the smoke: some people believe sex is important. Some don't. Some people believe everyone has an innate gender identity, more important than sex. Some don't. Both beliefs are worthy of respect. No one is a bigot for believing that sex is real & important
