[Tax] Oh @Oxfam. Oh @icij.... really?? really?? So Bob Geldof has a private equity company which invests in firms in Africa, and it structures through Mauritius (along with all the DFIs, IFC etcc) ...and....waves hands..."leak exposes multinationals siphoning tax revenues"https://twitter.com/oxfamwestafrica/status/1153602853631602688 …
I'm saying if there is nothing at all interesting or troublesome about Mr Geldof's investment structure then its irresponsible to present it as if there is.

And relying on celebrity 'scandal' is a cheap trick which suggests there may not be much else that is interesting or troublesome in the rest of
#mauritiusleaks (I don't know, i haven't looked closely - if there is a real story why not lead with that instead of a nonsense story?) -
unfortunately, tying the issue to a celebrity may be what it takes to get some attention to the issue

I think it’s redactionary to frame the
#MauritiusLeaks as a story about Geldof. The expose raises fundamental issues about the role of Mauritius as a taxhaven and a conduit for tax avoidance. This I think should be core the discussion not the ‘journalistic’ opening of the story -
I didn't frame the story that way
@ICIJorg did. Literally the first word in their report is "Bob". I agree they should have written a serious story about Mauritius -- its role in tax avoidance *and in investment* (because both matter) but they didn't.pic.twitter.com/2ehBXwLh8W
