      "Intersex" is an umbrella term for a set of specific developmental variations affecting either males or females. A tiny number (<10/ yr in UK) of babies are born w conditions where their sex is truly ambiguous even after careful medical examination: this is when sex is 'assigned'

      To suggest that people w "intersex" conditions are not males or females but a third sex (or hermaphodites!), or that some people are 'more male', or 'more female' than others is both inaccurate and offensive. There are two sexes. Gender identity is a different question @MRKHvoice

      You still haven't said what is inaccurate or offensive about stating that humans are male or female, including most people with intersex conditions. A tiny minority of babies w complex medical condutions have sex assigned. Have you reconsidered the idea of "many exceptions"?

          I'm not sure if we are agreeing, disagreeing or getting confused by words! There are *not* people who are neither male nor female sex. Everyone is either male or female. I.e. it is binary. Athena Swan makes the mistake of calling this gender when what they really mean is sex....
