Hi Jo & Dan. I have a very poor opinion of Mermaids, based on evidence that is largely in the public domain. Other people can of course come to different conclusions, especially on a cursory reading. I hope Jo will look further into it - & thanks for kind words Jo! I’m a big fan.

We certainly agree that their governance looks poor. I do want there to be a specialist charity helping children sensitively address questions they have about their gender. I do feel like I should know more about their CE but it's not easy finding disinterested information.

Documented by whom, Kathleen? It's a serious charge, and alarming if true.

Documented by Mermaids themselves. About 80% of their young clients transition. Other services like Tavistock it's 80% who don't. This was covered in the Lottery investigation into their Mermaids grant.

That summary makes the point - that immediately occurred to me - about correlation/causation and how the people who use Mermaids might be self-selecting.

There has never been a study anywhere at any clinic on any group that found desistance below 50%. Mermaids at 20% is clearly out of line. They’re railroading kids is my conclusion - and that of many experts I’ve talked to.

Do we know whether they are working with "an academic partner/evaluator"?

Not that I know of but not certain. Never heard that they were.

Maya Forstater Retweeted Equality Act 2010
We know that the BLF reviewer said they should. But the funding proposal plan is for same member of staff to be responsible for running groups, contributing to advocacy AND recruiting and co-designing 'academic' partners. Suggests serious lack of rigourhttps://twitter.com/2010Equality/status/1098194920165261312 …
