A personal experience which illuminates the point on thinking about harms re: #opendata on #beneficialownership & company directorship.... I was reading a letter to the editor on a controversial topic from a woman with a generic name and no address given. I wondered who she was.
Yes - wasn't so much that i could find her address (though it was), but I could figure out in 20 seconds which of the people with that generic name she was.... i.e. how the privacy u give up to be a company director, you also then give up in other areas of life that can be linked

Although writing a public letter to the editor of a newspaper isn't exactly keeping yourself out of the limelight. I agree that there's a debate to be had about the level of info disclosed for directors / BOs, but I'm confident that we've mostly got the balance right.

And I'd imagine there is no checking of the residential address, especially if non UK. So the transparency pro maybe more illusory than actual, particularly in evasion and fraud. Plus shadow directors.
