A personal experience which illuminates the point on thinking about harms re: #opendata on #beneficialownership & company directorship.... I was reading a letter to the editor on a controversial topic from a woman with a generic name and no address given. I wondered who she was.
No they don't have to be. But e.g. i'm sure this woman had forgot that her residential address was there from a old directorship, and conversely if your name is John Smith and your residential address is not given then you are functionally anonymous....

Yes a level of transparency & accountability is the flipside of benefits of ltd liability - but the question is what level? In this case this woman's letter was nothing to do with the benefits of ltd liability of her old company, but the harm was there to her political voice
