123 people signed a letter in @thesundaytimes congratulating @UKScouting for reviewing its transgender guidance. Lets look at the changes (
= concerns on old guidance,
/
/
= good/ok/not good on new guidance)

In the new Guidance the Gender Trust is removed
and Mermaids is relegated to "may be useful info"
. Gendered Intelligence, Stonewall and GIRES are added as links, but there are no links to NHS resources or organisations sceptical of gender ideology

The old guidance encouraged breast binding
as a practice that must be respected. This has been removed from the new guidance
. But it does not mention that breast binding might be a cause for concern

The old guidance was big on the idea that children should be treated as having and knowing their "true gender"
rather than experiencing dysphoria which they might cope with or which might resolve in different ways.pic.twitter.com/1vcXC7C5tZ

Cross sex hormone treatment was presented as the obvious option
"allowing their body to develop in the way of their true gender"Show this thread -
The new guidance is more cautious.
Listen without making judgements or assumptions. Ask what you can do to make the child more comfortable. Give children time to think about it. Make adjustments to include them.pic.twitter.com/1ulWVDKDpn

The old guidance undermined safeguarding by telling volunteers they should reassure of “complete confidentiality”
. The new guidance has more emphasis on safeguarding
& makes clear that information can be shared if volunteers have concerns for a child's welfare or safety

The old guidance barely mentioned parents
. Only saying to work with them "if supportive" [of transition].
. It set the scene for viewing parents who are not encouraging their child to transition as prejudiced.

The new guidance has more emphasise on encouraging scouts to talk to parents, and involving them in planning together.
But it says parents should only be informed with child's permission
(.... this should say unless there are concerns for child's welfare or safety!)pic.twitter.com/PmNTfZtiSc

The old guidance says "ideally" children should use cubicled facilities of their "true gender" (i.e. shared with children of the opposite sex). It doesn't mention anything about the privacy and comfort of the other children.
