As a trans woman with 40 years of safeguarding experience and outdoor activity instructor experience I'm glad that the Scouts rewrite of their trans policy stresses that they are inclusive of trans children emphasising the importance of their inclusion, privacy and respect.

However I'm concerned by trans hostil reporting by trans hostile in print and social media twist of the actual policy: 'What about safeguarding? As with all young people, it is a safeguarding issue if a trans member is being abused, harassed or discriminated against.'

'If you believe that a young trans member’s welfare is at risk, it would be appropriate to disclose that they are trans if it is relevant to the situation, in line with Scouting’s Young People First Yellow Card code of practice and protocols.'

It's equally important to read the section on confidentiality in the policy: 'What about confidentiality? If a young person tells you that they are or thinks they might be trans, it is usually a positive sign that they trust you.'

https://members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources/4228/supporting-trans-young-people?cat=377,378&moduleID=10 … I'd urge anyone in Scouting to read this policy and not rely on the reporting of it.

You do understand that concerns were with the *old* guidance developed in partnership with Mermaids, and people are praising Scouts for developing the *new* guidance, which is has been strengthened to address safeguarding and inclusion issues
