Many women because of circumstances or life course also don’t risk these forms of discrimination and hardship. If they experience do not does that make them less of a woman? Why are real hardships and discrimination experienced by trans women not also recognizable then?

There is no such thing as "less of a woman" or "more of a woman". Its not a quantitative thing. Men also experience hardships and discrimination. We can recognise this. It does not make them "less of a man" etc...

Exactlymy point. So why can’t this apply for trans women.

This person appears to be arguing that because their hypothetical risk factors of experiencing these particular female hardships are nil, they should not be treated as women?

No. She is not (she is not here having been thrown off twitter so i'll take the liberty of saying what i think she is saying). She is saying that being a woman is a material reality. There are specific risks and vulnerabilities associated with that material reality, and...

... therefore there are specific (hard fought for) legal protections for women as a sex. These are not based on 'gender identity' - you cannot identify into or out of these specific risks & vulnerabilities so they should remain tied to the material reality of sex.

Yes. Me too. I'm easily distracted. Everyone has human rights. These are universal. Women have specific protection for their human rights based on their sex. I don't want these taken away.

Hi Emma. I hope you don't mind me coming back to you. I won't go on. Your answer that women's & girls rights won't be eroded if males are able to self ID as women and have access to formerly single sex spaces seemed certain, but I don't think it is something we can take on trust

I would like to see the policy analysis that has looked at these changes e.g. in schools, prisons, women's refuges, sports etc... and has found that women & girls rights, inclusion, fairness wont be harmed. And i haven't been able to find it (have you?)

Here is a report that sets out concerns (it is on Scotland but issues apply across UK+). I would want to see an equally robust analysis before concluding that this policy change will definitely not erode women's rights wouldn't you? I’m afraid that’s just really not a real threat. A. Trans women are not men pretending to be women. B. The likelihood of any occurrence of such a phenomenon is so minuscule compared to extent of impact of the denial of trans women’s rights.

The issue is not whether transwomen are pretending it is that they are male. Should women be imprisoned w male bodied people? Should women have to compete in sports against male bodied people? Should infirm women not be allowed to specify female carers for intimate care? real Qs
