This little sticker featuring the dictionary definition of woman was removed from the exhibition after 10 minutes. @PHMMcr later put up a message on twitter saying they should not have retweeted the photo.pic.twitter.com/A1NR4EcyHP
"we have been made aware" (by who? @katyarcherWho Who is it you have given the power to determine what women can say?) that it is associated with hostility "any such materials will be removed". Wow. That is wide... have you thought through what that might include.... ?pic.twitter.com/4UJ1a86GOA
Remember: pink pussy hats, worn to protest against Trump's misogyny are also called 'hostile' & 'exclusive' because they suggest that women are female people and should be able to have speak politically as a movement. (And we wouldn't want that...) https://eu.freep.com/story/news/2018/01/10/pink-pussyhats-feminists-hats-womens-march/1013630001/ …pic.twitter.com/K45QnTuCLA
@Womans_Place_UK which was set up to enable women to meet to discuss changes to the gender recognition act has been smeared as a "hate organisation" and Leeds City Council caved, cancelling their venue at the last minutehttps://womansplaceuk.org/dear-leeds-council/ …
Lesbians holding up a sign saying "Lesbians = female homosexuals" have been called hateful and exclusivehttps://www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/07/07/mayor-of-london-sadiq-khan-pride-transgender/ …
Basically anything that involves women talking about the material reality that women are female, and about sex based rights will be targeted and called exclusive and hostile. Is the People's History Museum ok with excluding all of this from history?
@katyarcher @HelenAntrobus Sometimes responses on twitter are not thought through. Perhaps this was a quick, panic reaction that didn't come from the top. Dont think that doubling down is the only option. Give it more thought. Talk to @kiritunks @ruthserwotka @TybilAlper
Just imagine the amazing, and creative and important exhibition you could put on if you engaged with why women are protesting rather than ignoring and silencing them. Just imagine the conversations you could spark.pic.twitter.com/3efX21xu57
You could feature opinion and artefacts from all sides of the debate. You could get people thinking and talking. Thats what your museum is for.pic.twitter.com/ZVpBVYPGPc
