"I had a chat w fearless Ruth..." reminds me of early interviews w Camilla Batmangelidjh. Stonewall is a powerful org training schools, police, judiciary & influencing policy. Good intentions should not be a barrier against scrutiny and serious questions.
'No debate' has always been an essential tool. In any such debate, a shared set of empirically unassailable truths would have to be agreed in order to communicate at all. Unfortunately those truths are fatal to one side of the debate, right at the start.
I also don't think we should forget characters from the past who raised a huge amount of money for charity - it was felt that their heart was in the right place. But they had a shadow side, which involved exploiting their position to abuse others.
