It looks like Maya's right to hold a sincere belief that many other people share, and not be discriminated against for having that belief, is the issue. In other words, it's about the PC of 'religion or belief'.

Thats right. Julian Norman talks about it here https://womansplaceuk.org/julian-norman-in-house-of-lords/ … It would protect both people who believe that everyone has an innate gender identity unrelated to sex and upbringing and those who don't. It would protect both against discrimination.
