Genuine question: why are so few UK NGOs & media focused on exposing the practices of UK banks, investments, & multinationals? I struggle to think of a UK NGO or newspaper that investigates our banks & companies’ practices overseas.. Yet in Switzerland there are many!! Why?pic.twitter.com/GZNWKPEPOA
There was a big focus by UK NGOs on sweatshop labour in garment sector & security impacts & human rights in extractives in the 1990s - got translated into multisector collaborations - ETI, EITI, Voluntary Principles & less direct campaigns in these sectors.

Yes, but that wasn’t corporate accountability. It was neoliberal third way naivety

Alls I'm saying is that to understand why UK generalist development NGOs don't tend to do MNC focused campaigns right now it may be worth looking back at the time when they did (before the multisector initiatives) & the path from then to now (and how that compares w Swiss NGOs)

There are still some single issue campaigns - baby milk action, tax justice network. Big UK NGOs moved into big corporate "Make Poverty History" style campaigns, which have now run their course I think. Also colonial guilt vs no colonial guilt may be a factor?
