And orgs like think tanks, universities, established women's orgs, human rights orgs, NGOs which could create calm spaces for debate, analysis & deliberation have abdicated their role on this and declared "no debate: transwomen are women": they've allowed people to be scared off

It absolutely isn't hysterical, but I think it looks that way to people who haven't engaged, and who are scared of failing the trans community the way they, or others, failed the gay community. You have to engage to see the truth.
