In the trans erasure memo from the administration, in the efforts to exclude trans people from the military, bathrooms, sports & all of public life, we hear about how this is about “biology” &“biological sex”. Let me explain why this is a dangerous and misleading construction.

"The implication, then, is that there are people who think they are one gender and those that really are." No. There are people who believe in innate gender and people who don't. I don't think women have an innate gender. Everyone has their own personality. Everyone has a sex.

You aren’t engaging with this substantively. How do you define biology? If my testosterone levels are as high as someone born with a penis how would you classify me? What if I had xy chromosomes but was assigned female at birth? What about trans men who decide to become pregnant?

Human beings develop along two different pathways in utero. Male & Female. Usually XX chromosomes result in a female baby (not always, in rare cases the SRY gene which is normally found on the Y chromosome gets translocated to an X. (1/)

In the vast majority of cases a baby's sex is obvious to all at birth. In very few cases it needs further investigating, in a tiny proportion with very rare conditions it is truly ambiguous (2/)

You believe that people have an innate gender identity. I do not. I recognise that some people undergo gender dysphoria and may seek medical treatment to alleviate it. Every person's human rights should be protected. (3/3)

I don’t believe people have an innate gender identity. I don’t believe in innate anything. I believe that people have the right to identify as they wish, transition medically if they wish- and regardless have that gender identity respected .How does that undermine human rights?

That is fine. Gender is not innate then, and has nothing to do with sex, right? It's like what football team you chose to support.

But then it raises the question why it would have anything to do with access to single sex spaces and sports? These are not based on sex, not gender identity, and they're not the same thing. So I agree with you people should be able to adopt a gender identity if they wish...

But that makes no difference to their sex. I am a woman. That is my sex. I do not claim a gender identity, but I am obviously female. Women benefit from single sex spaces and sports, we have laws against sex discrimination (and also in the UK discrimination against trans people)

Being male or female is innate. We are born w the potential to gestate or impregnate, and it is impossible to switch. Historically the ♂️ have dominated the ♀️. I am not saying women should be limited to our reproductive biology, but to pretend it does not exist will not serve ♀️

In saying that difference is essential, not constructed, you’re basically condoning the corollary idea that men and women have different “biologically based” strengthens and weaknesses... and that we should therefore have different roles in society. No?

No not at all. The difference between having the kind of body that may be able to impregnate or the kind of body that may be able to gestate is essential, it is not conditioned! And it has significant impact on people's lives. Doesnt mean we should play different roles in society
