If you’re confused about trans debate, this is a clear explainer especially how ‘gender identity’ is accepted by human rights and development organisations. Actually
@GitaSahgal, in the US & across the globe, far-right Christian groups are adopting this “feminist” take on trans rights to push for regressive, gender-essentialist policies that threaten YOUR rights, my rights, and the rights of trans and gender non-conforming people.https://twitter.com/GitaSahgal/status/1105747031425982464 …Aviva Stahl added,

It never ceases to shock me that “feminists” see trans people (and those who support gender liberation for everyone) as the greater enemy, even though we’re living in a time when far-right populists have it out for ALL of us.https://twitter.com/stahlidarity/status/1105837163533557763 …

It's not about enemies or right /left positions. Agreeing on the existence of gravity doesn't mean aligning on everything else. Similarly human beings are male or female (sex, not gender identity). Everyone's human rights should be protected

Actually, you’re incorrect. Binary sex is more myth than scientific reality. And notions of “biological” sex have been used to discriminate against women for generations. Why do you think its in the interest of cis women to hold onto essentialist notions of either gender OR sex?

I don't say anything about "cis" women. There is a class of people (half the world) with female biology who have historically been and are still discriminated because of their sex (1/)

Their interests in reproductive rights, vulnerability to pregnancy, the impact of child bearing, needs in healthcare and in sport are different from people with male biology. Historically, and still people with male biology tend to dominate (2/)

In whose interest is it not to be able to name this? Why does it make sense not to have a single word for the people with female biology, but instead to have to describe them as "cis-women, transmen and some non-binary people"? (3/3)

What is female “biology”? Genes? Hormone levels? External anatomy? The notion of biological male and female sex is a construct, not a scientific truth. I tagged you in a thread that delves into this- if you want to read and engage with me on the content I’d be happy to do that.
