I tried to be clear and calm. But I don't want to diss anyone who does funny, sweary, angry... It takes all sorts. I've been criticised on tone & language previously, but I really don't think language is the issue

From what I've seen the critical commentary on those things was an attempt to not engage with the content of what you were saying. And so not at all true.
Yes - both on tax and on this. "your tone is wrong" often means "please shut up" I'm sure I get tone wrong often and I try to improve, but I won't shut up.
Sometimes it's hard to be calm & considered when discussing with individuals. Being told that you need to be educated & that your ideas align with the evangelical right tends to raise the blood pressure & things take a bad turn leading to huge upset. Thanks for this great thread!
