Good example! I wouldn’t force a child to share a tent with someone they don’t want to. If someone doesn’t feel safe or comfortable they should know they will be listened to. But I don’t see why you have to call this person a boy to achieve that.

Because that is why the girl does not want to share a tent w him. He may be perfectly nice in everyway. Not threatening. But I think she has that right. It does not have to be handled in a way that humiliates anyone. eg could ask kids/parents to choose mixed or single sex tent.

But when i suggested this (unoffical scouting FB page) i was told it was transphobic "transwomen are women".... If any girls or parents are concerned they "are transphobic and should leave scouting"!

(just to clarify... this is a hypothetical example, not a real case that i am dealing with)

there is no need to invoke gender here. it is no better to be made uncomfortable by being forced by messed up notions of social politeness to share a tent with a creepy woman than a creepy man.

No children are forced to share a tent with adults (that is absolutely not allowed). This is about whether girls can object to sharing a tent with a boy in their age group.

transgirls are girls and not boys. they do not assault other girls at anywhere near the same rate that boys do.

So you keep saying. but i haven't seen any evidence of this. Study in Sweden found that crime rate of transwomen matched male not female pattern (and this was ppl undergoing surgery etc.. not self ID)https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0016885 …

This study has been misinterpreted (including by you, right now) to the extent that one of the authors spoke out explicitly against that: https://medium.com/@notCursedE/do-trans-women-retain-male-pattern-violence-df67954373fd …

Thank you I've read the links. This is what the paper says. I don't think I am misinterpreting it. Also this is a study of transsexuals receiving medical care (& suggests mental health support important). Self ID does not require any medical diagnosis or support.pic.twitter.com/xmVR6vMr9E

We cannot conclude from this that any male who says he feels like a woman will automatically have female patterns of offending. Self ID increases risks for women and girls who can no longer exclude males from their spaces
