I wouldn't want to speak for Maya, but I sense her concern is that if trans-women can self-identify as women they may take opportunities reserved for biological women (eg. political reservations, panel spots).
I don't think it was just insensitive. I think it was misogynist and insulting!.... Imagine @FT were running a list of black and ethnic minority business leaders and they awarded a white person because of the way they wear their hair and their clothes

But yes i agree the manels is somewhat different (i.e. if the scenario was w a male person whose identifies as a woman). Even then i think it wld be legit for a guy to say I took a pledge not to be on all male panels, so i'll stand down & suggest they find a female person as well

I... think that would be really horrible of them. I've literally never seen a trans person anywhere on a development panel ever. I would welcome it. As a woman, this is not the hill I would want a manel pledger to die on in my name...
