I wouldn't want to speak for Maya, but I sense her concern is that if trans-women can self-identify as women they may take opportunities reserved for biological women (eg. political reservations, panel spots).

Personally, I doubt a man would do this deceitfully, in order to gain access to such opportunities. I also doubt trans woman taking such opportunities is a threat to women's voice/ access (because trans people are a tiny tiny minority).

I don't think there is any way to tell if someone's feelings of being a woman are 'deceitful' or not. I don't know what it 'feels like to be a woman' - are my feeling womanly enough? Who is to know? I think it is regressive to define womanhood by dress code, behaviour or feelings

I meant deceitful as in masquerading as female primarily in order to access spaces reserved for women (such as a male rapist identifying as female, to access a female prison and cause harm).

Bunce does not 'masquerade as female' he is a man who likes to express himself part of the week by wearing a dress. I have no problem with men wearing dresses, but we don't need to confuse acting in a stereotypically feminine manner with being a woman! https://www.fnlondon.com/articles/mistranslated-i-split-my-time-as-pippa-and-philip-20171002 …pic.twitter.com/TMy8SMshct

As he said "it's synonymous to how a lady may choose to wear a dress, heels and makeup one day yet trousers, flats and no makeup another" I am flummoxed that people think that wearing a dress, heels and makeup is what qualifies someone as woman!

They don't think it qualifies them as a woman... that's why they identify as gender fluid not trans woman, right? (which is why it was indeed weird for them to be put on the women in business list!)

Yes. & weird he felt entitled to accept the award, instead of saying "sorry there has been a mistake I am a man who challenges gender norms" & that CreditSuisse didn't either. Its like they were putting the entitlement of powerful men ahead of treating women fairly. whodathunk?

its the second year running he's been on it. There's another man on the list Nicci Take (her biz is doing presentations as a "corporate drag queen"). I think @ft are insulting women with this, instead of using their position to champion diversity by putting them on the mens lists

Yeah, I think I agree with you - Pip's inclusion on the list struck me as insensitive to both women & trans people, specially when CS has a big problem w/gender pay gap. I reckon it's separate issue than the manels point tho? I feel uncomfortable conflating the two.

I don't think it was just insensitive. I think it was misogynist and insulting!.... Imagine @FT were running a list of black and ethnic minority business leaders and they awarded a white person because of the way they wear their hair and their clothes

But yes i agree the manels is somewhat different (i.e. if the scenario was w a male person whose identifies as a woman). Even then i think it wld be legit for a guy to say I took a pledge not to be on all male panels, so i'll stand down & suggest they find a female person as well

I... think that would be really horrible of them. I've literally never seen a trans person anywhere on a development panel ever. I would welcome it. As a woman, this is not the hill I would want a manel pledger to die on in my name...
