Maya, are you saying that trans women are not women? I’m a bit confused...

I wouldn't want to speak for Maya, but I sense her concern is that if trans-women can self-identify as women they may take opportunities reserved for biological women (eg. political reservations, panel spots).

Personally, I doubt a man would do this deceitfully, in order to gain access to such opportunities. I also doubt trans woman taking such opportunities is a threat to women's voice/ access (because trans people are a tiny tiny minority).

I don't think there is any way to tell if someone's feelings of being a woman are 'deceitful' or not. I don't know what it 'feels like to be a woman' - are my feeling womanly enough? Who is to know? I think it is regressive to define womanhood by dress code, behaviour or feelings

I meant deceitful as in masquerading as female primarily in order to access spaces reserved for women (such as a male rapist identifying as female, to access a female prison and cause harm).

Bunce does not 'masquerade as female' he is a man who likes to express himself part of the week by wearing a dress. I have no problem with men wearing dresses, but we don't need to confuse acting in a stereotypically feminine manner with being a woman! https://www.fnlondon.com/articles/mistranslated-i-split-my-time-as-pippa-and-philip-20171002 …pic.twitter.com/TMy8SMshct

As he said "it's synonymous to how a lady may choose to wear a dress, heels and makeup one day yet trousers, flats and no makeup another" I am flummoxed that people think that wearing a dress, heels and makeup is what qualifies someone as woman!

Because gender is not binary...

Women were excluded from voting, from going to uni, from professions etc. not because of gender identity but because of their sex. Women are still discriminated against & disadvantaged because of their sex. I didn't think the
#manel thing was about wanting one person in a dress1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

Sure it's not your intent, but comes across as trivializing discrimination against trans men/women because of their identity/glibly reducing trans identity to wearing a dress. Don't see how the answer to discrimination against women is to sideline trans/non-binary.

The quote about"it's synonymous to how a lady may choose to wear a dress, heels and makeup one day yet trousers, flats and no makeup another" is not from me its from Phillip/Pips Bunce!

To be clear, I was referring to "I didn't think the
#manel thing was about wanting one person in a dress" in your last tweet. I don't know much about Bunce individually, but seems your concerns are broader than his/her case, given the commentary throughout on trans women.0 replies 0 retweets 0 likesThanks.
