There is a common idea that underpins all feminisms: that the world will be a better place (for everyone) if women's choices are not constrained because they are women. I actually think the gender fluidity framework tries to help with that project. But I know it's controversial.
Yes I think saying "gender" when we mean "sex" has opened the door to undermining women's rights and choices.
Truly a paradoxical result, if that's so! But (old materialist here), I think economic power matters most. I'm encouraged when I see the ever-increasing numbers of smart women doing jobs that 40 years ago would have been closed to them and wielding real influence.
