I think @Sandino500 is right though, do reflect, consolidate principles agreed at board level. Which is some lever for accountability and public engagement.
I think they reflect what they have been told to put into the statement by whichever Big Four firms is advising them.
The approach in large corps re board interest etc varies. On the tax mantra point, it is difficult perhaps to find original ways to say you are a good taxpayer which is what, of course, they want to say!
I have heard of boards rejecting specific proposals for structuring transactions for a tax advantage saying "we can't do *that* because it's against our tax principles"
Most large UK plcs now have a tax culture that stop anything aggressive well before it gets to board level, but the published strategy isn't (in my experience) really part of that.
