Listening to this debate, it's like Republicans are gonna pick up right where they left off in 2010, complaining about the process in Congress and how much money Democrats spend, like they didn't just blow up the deficit and preside over the most closed Congress of all time.

And the media and "serious" journalists are going to let Republicans do it because "OMG, if we call them out in the lying, people are going to call us "bias" and liberal"

Exactly. Every single time, reporters should ask about the hypocrisy, with examples... but they won't. They'll look at them all doe-eyed and fascinated with their moral stand while questioning why Democrats are pulling 10% of the shenanigans they just pulled.

That's the playbook. Deficits are only a thing when Democrats are in charge, trying to spend money on those who Republicans deem unworthy.

Deficits are a made up problem, period, and Democrats need to start saying that.

Also, after Trump leaves they’ll go right back to moral preening, demanding decorum and bemoaning the slightest personal flaws in Dems.

.... and this is different from when, how? Republicans are in permanent opposition, even when they are in power, at least in the sense that they don't believe in government, as a conduit for good works. They believe in it as a mechanism for "victory", defined as $$$ and 👊👊👊

And so when they're in charge, they're in "opposition" to the principles of good governance, hiding their power beneath a cloak of cultural persecution and animosity towards Democrats, and when they have the slightest opposition, they adopt whatever is necessary to hamstring Ds

but what is most important is the image of themselves as besieged warriors, never in charge, always fighting against the dominant scourge. They're waving the bloody shirt that is wet from the gouges they've made in the body politic.

Of course. Just like how the next Democratic President will be called "undignified" if she or he shows up on TV wearing a tan suit, as though 4 AM incoherent tweeting, Toilet Paper-Walking, Porn Star-Screwing Donald Trump never happened.
