Here’s why I love : We got to tell the truth about Paul Ryan. We didn’t have to pretend he was a serious thinker, or a tragic figure. We called him what he is, a monumental partisan, and we got to do it for 3,200 words. Please read and share.

  3. Completely missed the news cycle about wizards in the Harry Potter universe just shitting wherever and then disappearing it. And I do mean “missed.”

  4. I have no idea what Trump has really endorsed during this press conference, but he’s lied multiple times — his past support of concrete for the wall, who’s paying for the wall, and the state of the U.S-Mexico trade deal — and I’m wondering how you make a deal with this guy.

  12. To be clear, I haven't actually seen a reporter object to Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib's language. (Have you ever heard the shit we say?) I *have* seen plenty of reporters criticize Tlaib for running away from questions. And I've seen plenty of tweets purposely confusing the two.

  13. One thing that new members of Congress should know is that the press is going to ask you questions — and we don’t want answers from flacks. Congress is the best covered institution in the world, and the reason for that is the access, conversations, and relationships we share.

  15. Yes, the problem with our politics is that sometimes people — *looks around for fainting couch* — swear.

There are so many phone numbers — even license plates! — that I still have memorized, but a teacher once tasked me with knowing the nurse’s office extension and that’s gonna be with me for the rest of my life.

The House passed two bills Thursday night to end the shutdown, with a handful of Republicans joining Democrats. McConnell says he won’t take them up because they can’t pass the Senate two weeks after similar legislation passed the Senate unanimously.

House passes the minibus to reopen closed agencies 241-190, with seven Republicans defecting to join all Democrats in support of the bill. Again, cracks in the GOP shutdown strategy, but they're still small.
