French government inquiry confirms (as reported earlier by investigative media) that the initial IHU-Marseille hydroxychloroquine study was faked, with different criteria for +ve/-ve PCR tests being applied to the two groups. This is straight-up scientific fraud.

I have received the independent ombudsperson's report on how my allegation of fraud in the trial was handled, and agree with the deficiencies identified.
I would urge the journal to adopt all four of the included recommendations.

No wonder gets frustrated at the way journals treat research integrity concerns.

The joke is, my employer is also the one running the #LongCovid service in my area. So the ones meant to treat me, are the ones that are planning to fire me, because I'm not getting better- under their treatment!!!

Personal testimonials and online recovery anecdotes are taking the place of marketing for promoting some decidedly questionable and expensive treatments for post-viral symptoms. The BMJ is sometimes concerned by this.
We've seen so many therapies being pushed on post-viral conditions without good evidence. Things are repeating with long covid. Expect we're going to start seeing poor quality research that makes things worse soon. Not sure anything has been learnt from the failures of the past.

I have concerns about the treatment of long covid with apheresis and triple anticoagulant therapy. This is not like using hydroxychloroquine without proper published data. Triple anticoagulant therapy is associated with a significant risk of bleeding inc life-threatening bleeding

If Boris really wants his party at Chequers, maybe that's a good reason for him to be Prime Minister for a couple more months?
Quote Tweet
Tory MPs need to calm down. Boris has resigned. If he wants some stupid bash in Chequers let him have it. The key thing is not to choose the next PM quickly, it’s to choose the right PM. They ‘re only going to get one chance. They can’t blow it in a rush like they did with May.

TBH - believe it when I see it re plans for a radical new approach & a huge step forward for ME/CFS. Always open to the possibility of real change, but having seen how things work in UK medicine, and the history of BS, there's some cynicism here.

The way that the benefit systems means that those with health problems are expected to pursue medical interventions (regardless of their value) to show that they're 'deserving sick', further strengthens the power medical professionals have over their lives.
Quote Tweet
Oddly the fact that I don’t have medical intervention (other than the stated braces/supports/physio/counselling/painkillers/prescription meds) means they feel I’m not in need of support. There just isn’t further medical remedy for my chronic diagnoses - so we’re let down twice
