    Distracted driving continues to be an area of concern in Maryland. While the number of distracted driving crashes dropped from 57K to 45K between 2018-20, the number of fatal crashes increased from 176 to 205 over that span.

    Aggressive driving crashes are another area where the volume has decreased in MD, but the end results have become more concerning. While the total number of aggressive driving crashes decreased from 4366 in 2018 to 2962 in 2020, the number of fatalities increased from 28 to 55.

    Between 2017 and 2020, MD's impaired driving fatalities decreased from 191 to 120 as impaired driving crashes dropped from 6,654 to 6,150 over that span. But, impaired driving still accounted for 21% of traffic fatalities in MD. MORE: .
