Pleased to announce that Nigeria has a new Visa Policy, which I launched today. This new Policy will help improve our business environment, attract FDI, boost tourism, and improve African integration, without compromising national security and our territorial integrity.

Today I declared open the second edition of the conference of Auditors-General in Nigeria. I reminded them of their constitutional role to uncover corrupt practices at all levels of government, and even more importantly ensure that loopholes are blocked before they are exploited.

Let me use this opportunity to reiterate that the peace and security of Nigeria are non-negotiable; and that our Administration remains fully committed to supporting our Armed Forces with equipment and improved welfare, as they keep us safe from internal and external threats.

The 15th of January was intentionally chosen as Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Nigeria to commemorate the end of our civil war. It is a constant reminder to us of the need to guard jealously the unity of our country which was won at great cost.

On this day every year we celebrate Armed Forces Remembrance Day across Nigeria. This morning in Abuja I joined senior government and military officials to lay Wreaths in commemoration of the sacrifices of our fallen heroes and war veterans. Their efforts will never be in vain.

Today I received the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT). Teaching is one of the noblest of professions. It shapes the character, calibre and future of individuals & nations. We owe a lot to the teachers who moulded and influenced us. No reward is too much for them.

I received the outgoing Ambassador of Mauritania, His Excellency Ba Abdarrahmane, today. The relationship between our two countries is historic. As military Head of State I ensured Nigeria stood with Mauritania, and even today, we still stand closely with them.

  10. Today the President/CEO of Hyundai Engineering Company Limited visited, and put forward a proposal to set up a vehicle manufacturing plant in the country. I pledged the full collaboration and support of the Federal Government to make this planned investment a reality.

  11. My participation in the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference always takes me down memory lane. Earlier this week I was presented with once-upon-a-time photographs, from my time as a young military officer. General Gowon was C-in-C at the time.

  12. Today I flagged off the commencement of construction of the University of Transportation in Daura, an investment by China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), and the first of its kind in Africa. The Federal Government will fully support this project to completion.

  13. Today, on our 30th Wedding Anniversary, I pray for Allah’s continued peace and blessings in our home and family.

  14. I sent a goodwill message to the 23rd Farmers Day Celebration, organised annually by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) and its JV partners - this year in Obie, Rivers State. Nigeria's farmers are its authentic heroes, not only for today, but for tomorrow and evermore.

  15. Also found worthy of honour was Bashir Abubakar, an Asst Comptroller-General of Customs, who rejected a bribe of $412,000 per container offered him by drug traffickers seeking to bring 40 containers of Tramadol into Nigeria. A fine example of incorruptibility, worthy of emulation.
