By my quick and dirty calculations, the US is likely already facing 15%+ unemployment. We need to do whatever it takes to keep people in jobs, even if it’s not perfectly targeted

I agree. As soon as we get the economy back to normal, sweep the bastards out. But for now every gov't effort should be focused solely on getting this virus under control and keeping the economy from collapsing in the meantime. First things first
