I use Tumblr for original content (since I was there before I was on WP), but IIRC @idrinknwatchani and @JScheibelein use Tumblr in the way you're thinking. I don't know how successful either of them are with the platform, though.
Anyone share their blog posts to Tumblr? I thought I'd create one just for the sake of it, and now, after like a year of use, I got one follower! It's done automatically, and I don't use Tumblr, so I don't really care, but does anyone actually have a successful WP to Tumblr blog?

Can confirm it’s pretty meh. I’ve been doing it for like a year as well and I have like 12 followers, so not as worth as you think.

[1/2] We do, but in my experience, you can't rely on WP's automatic sharing feature. Unlike Twitter, where we can add hashtags, when sharing tumblr's post, there isn't a way to add the tags.

[2/2] And Without the tags they won't show up in tumblr's search engine/categories, so you have no choice but to manually put them in. It's a lot of extra work, but if you're willing to do it then your follower count should grow thanks to its exposure.
