There’s always been a hip hop scene on Guam - to not acknowledge all the rappers and MCs from Guam and the CNMI from the last 20+ years is not giving credit to those who paved the way

These rappers/MCs covered all the bases from underground mix tapes to radio air play to battling - they pretty much normalized and helped rap and hip hop become accepted - even taking a lot of shit along the way - being hated on by “island” and “Chamorro” artists

And a lot of them went beyond brag raps or love raps or trap raps - raps about Indigenous rights, politics, the struggle. I appreciate all kinds of styles but I just think these groups and individuals - and many others - should be given the credit they deserve

I notice a lot of the younger generation tends to think everything starts with them - whether it’s activism or art - even my generation has been guilty of it - never forget that we stand on the shoulders - standing tall or not at all - of those who went before us
