I was prepared for the onslaught of new dc daycare germs but going 2 for 2 on covid exposure on the first day of daycare was not on my list. Across nyc and dc were now at 2 closures within 3 weeks - this is unsustainable 🙃
Do folks have any recs for where two people who don't want to get a car and a baby should live in DC? Related: In some personal news, we are moving to DC!

We’re proud of our team for staying vigilant & calling this what it is: An extremely cruel strategy that tries to make living on the streets even more unbearable, over and over again, thinking that it will coax people into shelters where #COVID19 is surging. We demand this stop.

“Now they’re giving people no choice but to go into a shelter, go to jail or go into the subway,” said a @humandotnyc outreach worker But few staying in public spaces say they are willing to enter NYC’s congregate shelters, where COVID-19 is surging citylimits.org/2021/12/22/as-

. must immediately move people from congregate shelters and the streets into hotel rooms where they can socially distance. Meanwhile, they should follow guidance and #StopTheSweeps. We are talking about human beings here, . New Yorkers.

One NYC homeless shelter has had 14 of 200 residents test positive: 7%. And most haven’t even been tested. 12,000 people live in congregate shelters, often 20 to a room. City had only ~200 open isolation/quarantine beds on Tuesday. People are scared. nytimes.com/2021/12/23/nyr

Hello Twitter! I know it’s the end of the semester and also a v last minute plea, but I’m looking for a guest speaker in my Social Welfare Programs & Policies I class next Wednesday AM- I’d love to have someone zoom in to chat about advocacy + policy in social work.

The fact that social work continues to debate whether we should walk hand in hand into communities with the police - the very people responsible for murdering and terrorizing them - says a lot.  We profess these “social work values” but nearly everything we do causes harm.

In NYC (& I'm sure most places), homeless outreach services are largely broken. Workers focus on "taking names" rather than ensuring folks can access the services they want, and in the end cannot offer what people are looking for: safe, affordable, housing.

Princess is a part of our family just like pets are a part of so many other families. No one should have to choose between leaving their pet or accessing shelter. Today is voting on bills that would be a first step in expanding shelter services to people with pets.
