Before I became a youtuber and talked to other leftists about Marx, Lenin, Engels, I didn't know jack shit about any of those people's personal life. Same with Ho Chi Minh Thought. We just forcus on his thought, not his personal stuffs.

I only studied about HCM's personal life in literature and history classes. I think that our education system is very materialist and we don't want our students to idolize anybody or let personal stuffs ruin the ideology itself.

When i teach Marx's method, historical/dialectical materialism and so on, I like to go a little bit through their lives so that the students know what was happening and what issue, political or theoretical was the author trying to solve when he thought about what they're learning
-
I like to do this with every theorist and philosopher actually, always talk a little about the thinker's life

When you say that do you mean that in Vietnam you would read the writings of Marx or Ho Chi Minh or that the broader theories of contemporary Marxism-Leninism are taught or both?
-
Both, but in the basic college curriculum we mostly have passages within textbooks. Every student in Vietnam takes this basic curriculum (one class every semester), other students do more deep study and read full texts.
