  2. Rewilding the uplands will require us to be pragmatic idealists. 🧠 That means accepting that we don’t need a dozen landowners who practice rewilding perfectly, we need hundreds who practice it imperfectly. 🌱

Brewdog is doing something extraordinary on a vast piece of land in the Scottish Highlands, restoring peatlands and wildwoods on a grand scale. I wonder if other companies and landowners will follow suit.

  6. Great to see grouse shooting’s attack on backfiring with nature fans everywhere lining up to cheer on the company buying up and restoring a now former grouse moor. 🍻 It’s a sure sign of the times that it pays for brands to help nature’s recovery.

  8. Restoring moorland estates to lock carbon in the ground is the future of the uplands — and the outdated grouse shooting industry knows it. That’s why it has launched a cynical attack on ’s pioneering peatland restoration project today.

  9. Rewilding is one of the most efficient and logical ways of solving climate breakdown. Gone are the days of fruitlessly cataloging the demise of nature. We’re in the age of restoring nature.

  11. Britain is the closest it has ever been to licensing grouse shooting moors, with two of the three main parties backing the move to tackle wildlife crime and burning on peatland.

  12. Each of Britain’s political parties recognise the need for greater regulation of grouse moors, but there are differences in each party’s proposals for how far changes should reach. ⚖️ Here’s where the , and are at. ⬇️

  13. The longer bird of prey persecution and burning on peatlands goes on, the more pressure will face to license grouse moors in England. SNP and Labour are backing licensing as a united opposition, so it's only a matter of time before the government has to make a move.

  15. Tonight, MPs are set to debate the future of the uplands — which is likely to see consensus starting to take shape about the need to license grouse moors as part of a transition to healthy and functioning landscapes.

  17. We can't keep doing the same thing otherwise we'll continue getting the same results. We must flip wildlife and habitat loss on its head and bring real change when it comes to migrating our degraded upland landscapes to a healthy and functioning environment.

  18. A fascinating day with talking about the habitat restoration work being done for lapwings and other wetland birds. If only we can start looking at wildlife conservation issues on a landscape scale, there may be hope of bringing many species back from the brink.

  19. This is the future of the uplands where producing a wealth of nature to attract investors looking to offset carbon is converted into cold, hard cash for landowners. ⬇️

  20. Grouse moors: few people want one, they rarely deliver what they promise and activist pressure is making running one all the more unworkable. Keep on keeping on. We are creating a wilder future for the uplands based on working with, not against, nature.

  21. Inspiring to join ’s lunch and learn on developing investment in climate innovation and solutions. What’s clear is that growing private and public investment in restoring habitats for carbon offsetting is going to be a game-changer for nature.
