So proud of our team in India. Last time it was just concrete and no hires. Still amazed at the growth and how beautiful it turned out. From 5 originals to 50 today, come join this transformational team. Contact me to figure out how!

If you think your career is dead in your forties and fifties, here’s just one counter example. Steve Jobs was 43 when he introduced the iMac; 46 for the iPod and the first Apple store; 51 for the iPhone; and 55 for the iPad. And he was seriously ill during a lot of this.

Anyone claiming they could have built a better version of the Iowa caucus app "in a weekend" is exhibiting exactly the kind of hubris that led to the app in the first place. It would take six months to responsibly design, execute, test, deploy and train people to use a good app.

The thing about a framework, Scrum, TDD, whatever, is that it is a massive simplification of how the thing "should" be done. A good framework has rumble strips and guard rails. When you hit those, they alert you to issues that the beginner would likely miss on their own. 1/9

The act of describing a program in unambiguous detail and the act of programming are one and the same.

“Why is the story of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf' told over and over in our society, but not the story of Cassandra, the woman who told the truth but was never believed?”

Do yourself a favor: read. But be kind to yourself and read what matters NOW. I delight in things that were inaccessible 5 years ago. Shuck pretentiousness and just focus on the things people one level up from you consider great. Read the hell out of your next professional level.

Reminder now that provisioned concurrency has launched: cold start probably isn’t the problem you think it is. Treat cold starts as 500s and see if you’re still meeting your SLOs (hint: you probably will be)

I am starting to think that a necessary skill for a developer is creating understandable diagrams with sufficient accompanying explanation, with as little overhead as possible. This is what I'm striving towards... any recommendations for articles, books, tools are welcome. 👩🏻‍🔧

TDD. By which I mean the thing where you write a tiny test, see that it doesn't run, write just enough code to make it run, refactor the code to remove duplication and add clarity, repeat until done. Why do we do that? 1/7

agreed with so much of yesterday’s NY Prod Conf but want to repeat one thing: a PMs job is not to make all the decisions themselves. A PMs job is to make sure that good decisions get made.

I believe is perceived completely wrong. I have years of background in iOS and Android native development, but RN is my go to tool now. The reason is quite simple, development speed. I’ve never been faster in shipping an App on iOS and Android at the same time.

Failover between public clouds. I figured this was necessary 7+ years ago while working on a startup to enable it. We were way too early. Cool to see everyone catching up and that we weren’t totally wrong.
