AITA for thinking of leaving my bf because of Danny Devito? https://bit.ly/3z9FWkT pic.twitter.com/AQ7ueNwLmE

I mean, I could see the issue if it were, say, a flag with a swastika on it, or something really politically charged and potentially divisive and offensive...but it's a cutout of an ACTOR, FFS.
Meh, I can see it from a work angle. If you're mostly Zooming & working from home, you need to have your Zoom space not be distracting during meetings. BUT asking him to use a fake background would have been the obvious solution here & mandating it for everyone would be better.
In what way is a cut out of Danny Devito not appropriate for the office?
I agree generally. But as long as you are using part of your home for work, it is a part of your workplace. Not wanting friviolous decor visible isnt about work intrusion into the house. Its about the house decore intrusion into the workplace setting (Zoom calls).
A lot of jobs want your work area to look professional when working at home if zoom calls are part of it. Just like, for instance, you wouldn't log on in your pajamas.
OK well then those jobs should pay for an office space. People's homes are not offices and it's unreasonable for them to be expected to be so, *for free*. Also lots of people do log on in their pyjamas.
slave and employee are two fundamentally different things. what is your point? are you implying that being asked by your boss to move a cardboard cutout of sight is on par with slavery?
This is an interesting point because the fact that zoom brings our bosses into our homes is fucking creepy and bad. I have already seen a coworker's husband naked, and that's the good part?
I don't agree in every case. If his "decorations" were like a wall of guns, like Lauren Boebert? Or a Nazi flag? There are cases where I think it's perfectly okay to require a change to the background decor.
