It was a great first day at the Inuit Circumpolar Conference in Utqiagvik, where I met with the Hon. David Akeeagok, the Deputy Premier of Nunavut. We discussed greater cooperation between AK & Nunavut, growing local economies & strengthening Native languages.

My grandson Alex joined me in Utqiaġvik yesterday for Nalukataq, the annual whaling festival that celebrates a successful hunting season for the Iñupiat of the North Slope. We had a beautiful summer solstice, and Alex was lucky enough to meet whaling captain and legend Jake Adams

During my trip to Sitka yesterday, I met with both the fishing community and the Sitka Tribe of Alaska to discuss their successes & priorities. I also received a tour of the facility, where they're building a new vessel. Thank you all for your hospitality!
