This, THIS is why it’s important to have legislators from all kinds of backgrounds in Congress, and why it’s bad that it costs so much money to run for office nowhttps://twitter.com/AP_Politics/status/1422897861025488898 …

Maybe there should be sliding income requirements for such pay? Like, if you’re already too damn rich you get less?
-
Maybe, but I don't as a rule love means testing—it always winds up leaving out people it shouldn't

I think there needs to be residential overhaul in the DC area. Available, affordable, comfortable places for residents, as well as apartment blocks for govt officials spread throughout. Do away with the clusterfuck of needing/getting to live in $Potomac$ and stuff.
-
And I may have a naïve, privileged eye here that is missing MAJOR problems, which, apologies if so, but only having the super wealthy areas with a huge drive as options just requires outrageous wealth. And it’s BS to not care for the ppl living local who make things run.

The Montana legislature meets every other year, so the only way you can serve is if you don't have to ask somebody else for time off. And so surprise! we have a lot of real estate professionals as reps.

I'd love to see serving in a "citizen legislature" treated similarly to the way we treat serving in the National Guard: guaranteed reemployment after the session ends, no disadvantage or discrimination because of your service.

The Texas Legislature is paid menial salaries and only meet once every two years. As a result only rich people can afford it because you have to have a "real" job to make it happen.
