To clarify: your MMR vaccine might be fine, but especially if you were born before 1990 you should get your titers checked (this is also me telling me to go do that). And TDAP— when was the last time you got it? Should be every ten years.

Or you might just be being manipulated by the media. Why do you recommend people lower their defense systems dealing with unrelated viruses right now?
-
That’s not how vaccines work. And while you probably have zero cases of the Wuhan virus anywhere near you, flu is everywhere, and it kills 12,000+ Americans every year. And new cases of measles and other formerly almost extinct diseases keep popping up because of anti-vaxxers

The flu shot includes strain (s) that would be more common for that season so not necessarily going to prevent you from the flu... And willnot be helping against the coronavirus
-
I didn’t say it would protect against coronovirus. I said it’s more sensible to do what you can to prevent the diseases that are already here and that (in the case of the flu) kill thousands of Americans every year

The 2019 flu shot missed and is ineffective against both strains of flu circulating It would do nothing but stress your immune system Telling people to get that under the threat of a global pandemic is terrible advice
-
Not really. Having had a flu shot can still make your flu less severe even if it isn’t the exact same strain (per the CDC, see the link). And vaccines don’t weaken your immune system. The opposite of that.https://www.mdmag.com/medical-news/flu-vaccine-reduces-virus-severity-patients-prevention …

Also: PSA for Boomers: A lot of the MMRs from back in the day did not take. You can 1) get tested; or 2) just get the shots again. They are a little uncomfortable but that discomfort < the knowledge that you passed a deadly disease to a vulnerable person.
-
Also applies to Gen X. We only got the single round, not the double round now used. I've had several friends come down with the mumps b/c they didn't have second round, and did not have titers drawn to check. (I got checked, and I'm good.)

-
Talk to your doctor - most people are okay but you can get your tithers checked for your immunities.
