Tomorrow’s vote is CRITICAL, and we need support from (District 2) and (District 4). Take the actions in the 🧵 below and spread the word to help keep our incorporated city neighbors housed! #HousingIsAHumanRight!

The @LACountyBOS will vote this Tuesday, 1/24, on a motion to extend emergency tenant protections through 6/30/23. This would give incorporated cities more time to implement their own permanent protections, since they are not covered by the county's permanent protections.

LOS ANGELES: There’s a crucial way to fight homelessness and the housing crisis that isn’t talked about enough, but that we could take action on TODAY. In addition to building more housing, we need to HELP PEOPLE STAY IN THEIR HOMES. And we can do it, with your help!🧵

If you want a good example of how sanitized and sterilized we've made MLK's memory, here's the editorial the ran on the day of his "defining speech."

You may not think your one phone call makes a difference, but it really does. Don’t let the weekend end without taking action. This frigid wet weather is a reminder that homelessness prevention is essential to save lives. #KeepLAHoused

🚨ACTION ALERT: With emergency tenant protections slated to end at the end 1/31, we need the @LACityCouncil to adopt strong permanent protections immediately! Support LA tenants by - 📧sending an email: bit.ly/klahcityaction 📲calling your councilmember

Yup! We need permanent tenant protections to #KeepLAHoused! Wanna be part of the solution? 🔔 Email and urge them to pass Universal Just Cause, Relocation Assistance, and Limits on Evictions for falling behind on rent ASAP: bit.ly/klahcityaction

Renters make up the majority of residents in LA, but far too often tenants are left feeling powerless, battling against the entire system to stay in their homes. If we want to solve our homelessness crisis, we need to implement common sense renter protections.

I talked to Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors about LAPD killing her cousin, who got in a car accident + then was restrained and Tased by multiple cops. "He was asking for help and was killed." Keenan Anderson was a high school teacher:

Once again the interpretation at the meeting was shameful… People take time out of their busy days, find childcare, wait in long lines to be able to make public comment about issues impacting them urgently - all to have 1 min of comment translated to 4 words…
Quote Tweet
Margarita Gonzalez speaks in Spanish for a full minute in support of protections for vulnerable working-class tenants so more ppl don't end up living on the streets. No one interprets for several minutes until the interpreter summarizes into four words: "she wants the extension"

On LA council's 1st day back from winter recess, Kevin de León watches from the back of chambers as fellow CM Eunisses Hernandez demands he resign and throws support behind recall efforts. Says de León has declined "numerous job offers" but is staying on for ego, personal gain.
Quote Tweet
LA Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez condemned the presence of Kevin de León at today’s meeting, with de León standing behind her: “How dare you continue to show up to these chambers and make yet another day that should be focused on life-saving tenant protections about yourself?”

Disappointing to see tenant protections lose by 1 vote. Thanks for voting the right way!
Quote Tweet
A lot to unpack from the discussion on the emergency declaration and tenant protections today in City Council. The motion from @HugoForCD13 and @EunissesH to remove the January 31st end date for emergency protections failed again by ONE vote (KDL joined the 6 pro-tenant CMs)

KDL has disqualified himself from public office. We've tried calls for resignation. We've tried censures. We've tried leaving chambers to break quorum. He has refused accountability over and over. So today I spoke to him directly and tell him, yet again, that he needs to go.

This department has prevented homelessness for 20,000 people, housed 3,000 domestic violence survivors, piloted a guaranteed income program for 3,203 Angelenos, and more in the one year that they’ve been in existence. City government can do so much good.
