So, this 10th grade class is raising money for travel expenses to visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in D.C. They need $2,000 and they’re about halfway there. I donated. Holocaust education has never been more important. Can y’all donate, too?

So a Chinese "spy balloon" is following the path above a number of our ICBM silos. Meanwhile, Rupert Murdoch's SkyNews in Taiwan is pushing a story ad nauseum that China is going to invade Taiwan and the US is going to go to war against China to defend Taiwan. Related?

My stepmother is a retired teacher in Florida. She called me today to say she’s reaching out to other retired Black teachers to get them to start showing up at school board meetings to “match THOSE voices.”People are organizing themselves around this madness.

All I’ve learned from the FL menstrualgate is that most Americans don’t know what HIPAA is.

The people of Alabama will happily tolerate ridiculously gerrymandered maps in order to win elections. Those same people would take up arms if we gerrymandered the state football region map this way.

This is a vitally important read. The Alabama prison crisis isn't a "bigger" or "worse" issue than many other things that are broken about America, but it's certainly up there.

Christopher Shannon Fulmer died at Elmore prison this week. I wrote about his mother's plea to Alabama's parole board, that if they kept her son in prison he would not survive. She was right. He was 45 years old, incarcerated for his entire adult life. alabamasmartjustice.org/stories/a-moth

And there it is. The National Review using the term "nappy-headed," not just to describe a Black person, but a child.

I am not giving oxygen to the rightwing media frenzy against the #1619hulu docuseries because I know they use the #1619Project for clicks, but I am so aghast and offended that the National Review would print this about this child just to make digs at this work.

Everyone is so up in arms about abortion/trans athletes that they're overlooking the ACTUAL reason for this: so parents pull their daughters out of sports entirely and the schools can quit funding girls' sports. Also, to eradicate women's sports scholarships.

i’ve said it before with regards to leaking female content creators’ nudes and i’ll say it again with regards to this deepfake pornography stuff— the reason you’re looking is because the lack of consent turns you on. you like it because these women did not consent. that’s it.

No, Jesus was not "defining marriage" in Matthew 19. He was responding to a question about divorce. It is Evangelicals who are trying to define marriage (one man/one woman) using Matthew 19, dragging Jesus into an argument that he simply wasn't having! Context matters.

So unless you admit that widows and single dads are terribly selfish and problematic for not racing out and finding someone to help raise their kids, then admit that it's not because kids are growing up in single-mother homes... it's because you hate women who got to choose.

Also, men who parent alone--whether widowed or because she walked out on them--are also celebrated. So, it's clearly not that only having one parent is going to create stunted, asocial, terrible kids. I cannot help but wonder why he's "so brave!" but single moms are evil.

In fact, we typically celebrate widows who raise their children on their own, especially ones who say, "I could never bring another man into my house. I'm still grieving, and no one could replace their father." So, which is it?

Anyone else noticed that the constant criticism/blame surrounding single mothers and the downfall of society never once blames widows? That it's always women who chose to raise their children alone that are responsible for all the evil in the world (chose in some way, that is)?

Usually, when I raise hell about police officer conduct, I get swarmed by the Back, the blue crowd with their pushback. I think I saw one or two comments, tops, in the last couple of days... Don't be obvious with it, guys; it's not the blue; you back, it's the “White,” isn't it?

FWIW, THIS is sometimes the response from too many educators when fellow educators attempt to discuss the issues we face as teachers. This helps no one, not even the person who thought it was okay to say it in the first place.
