The Portable Engine was one of Garrett’s most successful products. Thousands were made and exported worldwide from the 1850s to the 1930s. The Long Shop was built for their production. This portable, was used at Brace’s sawmill in Essex, and returned to the museum in 1984.

This group worked on the production of Threshing Machines. The Works began making horse-powered threshing machines in 1806. By the 1840s, they were made to be powered by steam. They became far more efficient. In 1929, the Works began producing steel threshing machines.
