Social distancing will be necessary as we move to reopen. We need to help businesses adapt. Our Shared Spaces Program will allow business to apply for no-cost, expedited permits to share public spaces like sidewalks, streets, and parking once they’re allowed to reopen.
This means retailers could operate outside, or restaurants could set up outdoor tables or maintain space for curbside pickups. I think u mean businesses need permits from the homeless to get access to sidewalks.
@LondonBreed thanks so much for working on this program. Will this also include bars using the same space? Many bars cannot open with social restrictions as their space in SF is small. Can we close streets like the Castro for this? Thanks again!
Polk, union, green, broadway, union, chestnut, and haight would be nice to make sure there are enough streets for all neighborhoods.
This is great! One thing the release does not address that I want to make sure of is that businesses are not allowed to block sidewalks unless other parking or road space is appropriated to make sure pedestrians have adequate and safe space for passage.
