There is nothing ambitious about temporary beds where most of the people return to the streets. How many people have been permanently taken off the streers in the last year - that’s the only number that matters, not this nonsense about number of temporary beds.

I’m in the Bryant streetvnavigatuon center, have been there for 3 months(nothing compared to others),approved for priority housing since March 2019 and have just been waiting... some people have been there 6&8 months! More permanent units not temporary!

Great. But we also need more units of real housing. Root cause.
-
Only 35% of homeless are from here and a 1bed apt is about $36,000 a year. For the 8,000 people here now that's $288M/year. We already spend $200M a year on supportive housing. There are another 130,000 homeless in CA alone. 500k nationally. Federal budget needs to cover this.

I’m excited to hear that your administration is committed to funding more behavioral health beds by the end of 2020. This issue is a major barrier for ppl w/a mental health disorder (and often co-occurring substance use disorder) to access a clinically appropriate level of care

There are people who are forced to stay in jail, a locked subacute treatment facility (LSAT), or on the inpatient psych units at ZSFGH and other community hospitals longer than what is necessary due to the insufficient amount of behavioral health beds in the community.

Thank You!! But to the Human Factor : to get people to want to stay in shelters = it begins with staff = they need to get liveable salaries with benefits!! This will attract & retain more & better staff!!That will attract more homeless off the streets!!

Many of these people need long term mental health/psychiatric care - not just beds in a naviagation center. Thanks for your efforts.
