This evening I issued a proclamation declaring a local emergency as a result of the Kincade Fire. San Francisco will be opening a temporary 200 person shelter tomorrow at St. Mary's Cathedral to assist evacuees from Sonoma County & we're looking at additional possible locations.
This is a temporary activation through Friday at a private location in coordination with the American Red Cross. We're on track to meet the goal of 1,000 beds by end of 2020--we've already opened 346 beds, with 444 under construction. That's the largest expansion in 30 years.

... but it becomes a bit frustrating when I'm in a wheelchair because of a recent surgery, going to my mental health appointments for ptsd and anxiety issues, and I'm told that I'm "just under the criteria for immediate housing". Meanwhile there are beds allocated...

... for felons fresh out of prison, transgender individuals, and individuals that are at risk of being right back on the streets in a matter of months (if not weeks). I've made complaint after complaint about the conditions at these shelters but it seems that SF doesn't care.
