Seriously what would it cost to set up 2000 shelter beds immediately? Would not fix everything but it would surely help. @VallieBrownD5https://twitter.com/ClaraJeffery/status/1179111560100233216 …

This is not INSTEAD of also taking action against street crime, by the way. BOTH need to happen.
@MattHaneySF how about it?2 replies 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread -
If it’s an emergency then maybe we can skip some of the years of hearings and use some city parking lots now. I can think of one in Balboa Park that could easily accommodate several large tent-like facilities.

And surely we have such a lot in each district. Let’s say 200 shelter beds per district, each in a large temporary building on a city owned parking lot. Need not be full navigation centers if that’s too expensive. Why not do it immediately?

Sure yeah Housing First and all that. But shelter is better than no shelter, and winter is coming.

Or we could DECLARE an emergency and otherwise do nothing, Vision Zero style. That’s also an option!

We set a goal of 1,000 new beds by the end of next year and we're on pace to meet it. The unfortunate reality is that it has less to do with funding and more to do with appeals and bureaucracy.https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/Mayor-Breed-promised-1-000-new-shelter-beds-by-14072525.php …

We're in a homelessness crisis and we shouldn't be allowing for unnecessary delays of new shelters and affordable housing. I passed legislation to streamline new shelters, and I tried to streamline 100% affordable housing, though that was blocked.https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/SF-supes-kill-Breed-s-proposal-to-streamline-14089886.php …

But we need to do more. We're going to keep building more Nav Centers, more behavioral health treatment beds for people facing addiction and mental health issues, more permanent supportive housing, and there's a $600 million affordable housing bond on the ballot in November.
