Today we installed the first of 80 new BigBelly trash cans included in our new budget. These containers are secure and hold up five times as much trash as a traditional bin. I believe there is still some disagreement over the business model that prevents SF DPW from buying more. DPW wants to purchase them outright, Big Belly only leases the trash cans.

Isn't this really about how we keep our streets clean by keeping the homeless out of the trash? Those cans come with some pretty big waste service fees. Any chance you can negotiate them hiring the homeless to empty them?
