Especially on our crowded streets, cars can be deadly. We were tragically reminded of yesterday on Taylor Street. Our city corridors must be made safer with better design by re-prioritizing who we build our streets for.

How strong is the evidence that an increase in SFPD enforcement reduces traffic deaths? If our goal is zero fatalities why aren't we removing car, truck, and bus traffic from some of our streets?

I live next to Taraval Station. It’s obvious how little SFPD cares about traffic rules — particularly including the “focus on the five” — by watching how they themselves drive around the station. I regularly see them blow through stop signs with no viable sign of an emergency.

We need enforcement. Actual cops writing citations. All SFPD should be ticketing unsafe drivers.

How about addressing the problem by removing or banning vehicles from city streets?
